Biodiversity
Biodiversity includes all living things in nature. Put simply, it means all forms of life, the habitats they live in and the genetic variation within species.

Skansen works to help conserve biodiversity by conserving animals and plants and sharing knowledge about the importance of species diversity. This work aims to build understanding and inspire people to care for the natural world. -
There is a lot you can do to support biodiversity. For example, you can put up bird boxes, build insect hotels, choose organic products, plant flowers that benefit insects and report any invasive species you find. -
In 2021, Skansen held a “bioblitz” – a survey that records how many species, and which ones, can be found in a particular area within a set period of time. Almost 500 wild species were recorded in the park in just 24 hours. -
Arctic foxes, forest reindeer and other threatened species – at Skansen, long-term efforts are underway to protect biodiversity. Through national and international conservation programmes, the zoo contributes to securing a future for species and their habitats. -
Zoos and aquariums contribute to conservation in the wild in many ways. Explore the EAZA Conservation Map to discover examples of projects supported by EAZA members around the world.
