Christmas At Skansen

At Skansen, guests have been able to experience a traditional Christmas since 1892. Over the years, our celebrations have incorporated modern elements and, in time, we have also created our own traditions. Today, just as in the past, the park is bustling with activity and filled with festive Christmas spirit.

  • Christmas at Skansen is celebrated over several weeks, offering the whole family the chance to experience a traditional Christmas of times gone by, with a touch of modern influence.

Step back in time and discover Christmas celebrations from different periods and places in our historic houses and farmsteads. Admire beautifully decorated Christmas trees, traditional festive table settings, seasonal baking and other Swedish Christmas traditions.

At the heart of the celebrations is Skansen’s traditional Christmas market, which has been welcoming visitors since 1903. Explore the market stalls for Christmas gifts, handmade crafts and delicious treats.

Enjoy music, dancing and storytelling throughout the park, as well as concerts and Christmas carols. Around 13 December, Lucia celebrations are taking place in various locations across the park. Our youngest visitors can look forward to plenty of opportunities for play, fun and encounters with enchanting Christmas characters.

On Christmas Eve, the park is open to everyone who would like to enjoy a peaceful walk around the park. Visit the animals or warm up in our beautifully decorated houses and farmsteads. On New Year’s Eve, we round off the year in spectacular style at the Solliden Stage, as the clock strikes midnight to the familiar Swedish words “Ring, klocka ring…” from Lord Tennyson’s famous poem, during the traditional live television broadcast of Tolvslaget på Skansen.
