Winter break

Visit Skansen during the winter break – a place where the whole family can experience animals, nature and shared activities in an environment made for exploring together.

  • During the winter break (sportlov in Swedish), you can meet the animals, walk through the park, grill sausages or stop for a coffee. There is also the opportunity to try sports and games, listen to stories, go on a quiz trail and experience much more around the park. Your visit can be shaped at your own pace, whether you stay for a short while or spend the whole day.

  • Free admission for children

    Children aged 0–15 have free admission but must book a free ticket prior to their visit.

  • Traditional winter games

    Daily, 10.00–16.00

    Challenge family and friends with traditional games from the past. Try bowling, target throwing, wood stacking, sailor games and team skiing at Bollnästorget and Tingsvallen.

    Quiz walk

    Daily, 10.00–16.00

    Enjoy a fun quiz walk for the whole family. Clever and playful questions for both children and adults, with start and finish at Bollnästorget’s dance pavilion.

  • Blacksmithing in the Smithy

    10.00–12.00 and 12.30–15.30

    Meet the blacksmith Adam and try blacksmithing yourself. A hands-on experience where the whole family can discover traditional crafts and history.

  • Talking about the seals in winter

    Daily at 14.00

    Meet Skansen’s animal keepers and learn more about seals. Hear how the training works and why it is important for the animals’ wellbeing. (Grey seals Thu–Tue, harbour seals Wednesdays)

    Take a break and grill sausages together. The grills at Bollnästorget are lit every day, as long as there is no fire ban. A cosy moment during your visit.

  • Animal talk

    Wildlife in winter

    Meet Skansen’s zoo educators and learn how Sweden’s wild animals survive the winter. Ask questions and discover animal adaptations (at the Predator house near the lynx).

  • Snus- and matchstick museum

    Daily 10.00–14.30

    Sit down in the workshop at the Snus- and matchstick museum and decorate a matchbox. A creative and relaxing break during your visit.

    Join a short guided tour at the Snus- and matchstick museum. Learn about the history of the matchstick and fire safety in a fun way.

  • Moose at Skansen

    In the park, you can meet wild Nordic animals, traditional Swedish livestock breeds and domestic animals, while learning more about nature. You will also find out how the animals are cared for and how everyone can help support biodiversity.

  • Winter leave at Skansen

    When you step through the gates of Skansen, it is easy to feel as if you have travelled back in time. In houses and farmsteads across the park, you will discover stories of how people lived in Sweden in different places and at different times.

    At the Children Zoo, Lill-Skansen, you can meet our smallest animals – rabbits, guinea pigs and mice, as well as snakes, birds and stick insects. A place to play, learn and get to know both domestic and wild small animals.

  • Baltic Sea Science Center

    10.00–12.00 and 12.30–15.30

    At the Baltic Sea Science Center, you can go beneath the surface and meet the animals that live there, while exploring exhibitions about the Baltic Sea and the environment.

    Cook sausages over an open fire at Bollnästorget. The grills are lit daily all year round, as long as there is no general fire ban. Welcome!
