Threshing at Skåne Farmstead

Meet Skansen's Village team and learn more about threshing.

  • In the past, threshing was an annual autumn task on farms. A flail was used to beat the grain and separate the kernels from the ears. It was hard work and remained the most common method for hundreds of years before mechanical threshing machines were invented.

At the barn at Skånegården, Skansen’s village community group demonstrates how threshing was done in the past.
