A 1920s Lucia Celebration

Step back in time to the 1920s and experience a traditional Swedish Lucia celebration. At the historic Temperance Hall, children from the Sprektrumkören choir perform beautiful Lucia songs, bringing to life the atmosphere of a celebration in a Swedish community hall a century ago.

  • In the early 20th century, Lucia celebrations became increasingly popular in Swedish schools and local communities. With traditional songs and candlelit processions, the Lucia tradition we know today gradually took shape. At the Temperence Hall at Skansen, you can get a glimpse of what such a celebration and Lucia concert might have looked like in the 1920s.
