Sweden's National Day

Celebrate Sweden's National Day with us on 6 June! A day filled with games, music and traditional dancing around the maypole.

  • Since 1893, Sweden’s National Day has been celebrated at Skansen on 6 June. Join us for a festive day featuring Swedish traditions, music, folk dancing, family activities, and the official National Day celebrations attended by the Royal Family. Experience a cherished Swedish tradition in the heart of Stockholm.

  • Information

    On Sweden’s National Day, traffic on Djurgården is affected due to the royal motorcade to Skansen. The tram is canceled and so is bus 67. The best way to get to Djurgården this day is on foot, by bike or by ferry (SL) to the Allmänna Gränd stop.

  • Before the evening's stage program

    All guests will be searched when they enter the stage area at Sollidenplan. To make admission easier, larger baggage should be left at home. No bags larger than 40 x 40 x 20 cm are permitted.

    Flag workshop and face painting

    Experience Swedish folk dance traditions as Skansen’s folk dance group performs a variety of dances accompanied by music from Skansen’s folk musicians.

    Swedish choral music

    Seglora Church 13.00 & 14.30

    Eken’s Vocal Ensemble explores Swedish choral music in the atmospheric setting of Seglora Church. The concert lasts approximately 30 minutes and is included in your admission ticket.

    Hazelius Meadow

    Walk on stilts, roll hoops, race in sacks and jump rope, play marbles and traditional sailor games!

  • National Day Market

    Market Street and Bollnästorget

    Open market stalls offering food and handicrafts.

  • Lill-Skansen stage 11.30 & 13.30

    The Rooster Tooters Orchestra invites you to a lively sing-along featuring classic children’s songs and the children’s favourite requests.
  • Market street

    At the market street by Bollnäs Square, blacksmith Adam Stenström will be on site – don’t miss the chance to try real blacksmithing!
  • The evening’s stage program

    In the evening, Anne Lundberg and Fouad Youcefi guide us through a summery National Day concert from the Solliden Stage.

    As tradition dictates, the Royal Family arrives at the celebration in a horse-and-carriage procession. The King delivers a speech, flags are presented, and the evening is framed by performances from beloved artists: Lisa Nilsson & Åsa Jinder, Tjuvjakt with Simon Strömstedt, Hanna Husáhr, Magnus Carlson, Tensta Gospel Choir, and the Swedish Armed Forces Field Artists together with the Army Band.

    The National Day celebration from the Solliden Stage begins at 5:15 PM, and the royal procession arrives at 6:30 PM. The program will also be broadcast on SVT1 and SVT24 (audio described) at 8:00 PM.

    There is a limited number of seats available, and admission to the seating area begins at 2:30 PM.

    The program is produced in collaboration with the Foundation of Sweden’s National Day.

    Note: In addition to security screening, there will also be a bag ban on bags larger than 40 × 40 × 20 cm.
