Easter and Easter break

Celebrate Easter at Skansen and discover how Sweden’s great spring festival has been celebrated throughout the ages. Here, traditions, folklore and creative craftsmanship come together.

    Children aged 0–15 enjoy free admission but must book a complimentary ticket in advance of their visit.

  • Experience Easter traditions up close. Create your own decorations inspired by times past, step inside the historic houses and discover how Easter was celebrated in Sweden long ago. Listen to tales of påskkärringar – Swedish Easter witches – and other magical beings.

    Take a break to grill hot dogs together before strolling through the park to spot the first signs of spring, explore historic settings, and meet wild Nordic animals and traditional Swedish native breeds.

  • The Post Office

    The postmaster Per August Nilsson and his wife, Anna Sophia, are busy sorting and delivering Easter cards to the residents of Virserum on Maundy Thursday in the 1910s.

  • Oktorp Farmstead

    Step inside Oktorp Farmstead to discover how people spent the sombre Good Friday, and what was served for Easter, in Halland in the 1870s.

  • Väla School

    Visit the schoolteacher’s residence at Väla School and experience Easter Eve in 1918. Here, the fastlagsris is decorated with eggs and feathers, and preparations for the evening meal are in full swing.

  • Järnhandlarbostaden

    Visit the family at the Ironmonger's Home as they prepare for an Easter gathering, complete with table decorations and traditional dishes associated with Easter Sunday in the 1930s.
