Education and training

Skansen Zoo plays a central role in sharing knowledge about animals, nature and biodiversity. As a zoo located close to the city with a wide reach, Skansen has unique opportunities to engage people of all ages and create understanding of the connections between animals, ecosystems and humans.

  • All educational activities are grounded in animal biology, natural behaviours and the zoo’s combined expertise, always with animal welfare at the core.

Education at Skansen has a strong focus on schools and learning at all levels – from preschool and primary school to upper secondary education, university studies and professional training. Through curriculum-linked programmes, courses and collaborations, Skansen supports teachers, pupils, students and doctoral candidates in exploring biodiversity, sustainability and species conservation.

Learning is strengthened through encounters with animals and nature. Daily educational activities, such as animal talks and guided meetings with animal keepers and educators, make complex concepts more tangible and inspire engagement. With its combination of zoo and open-air museum, Skansen functions as a living classroom where theory meets reality and contributes to knowledge and understanding for future generations.
