The Sami National Day

The Sami National Day is celebrated at Skansen with a number of activities in and around the Sámi camp.

The northern parts of Sweden, Norway, Finland and Russia are home to a Sami population of more than 70.000 people. At Skansen the Sami national day is celebrated on the 6 of February with music, speeches and souvas - a savoury dish of reindeer meat - among other things.

The Sami National Anthem is called Sámi soga lávlla and was composed in 1906, lyrics by Isak Saba and music by Arne Sörlie. On August 15th 1986, the Sami flag was apporoved by the Nordic Sami Conference.The flag was designed by Astrid Båhl fromSkibotn in Troms in Norway.
