Model Railways at Skansen

Sweden's most fascinating model railway layout is returning to Skansen on October 4–5! At Galejan Dance Pavilion, you can enter a small world filled with nostalgia, fascinating technology, and an abundance of detail.

    • Mälarmodulmöte, an association for model railways in modular form, will build a 400-square-meter model railway in 1:87 scale, depicting a summer day in Sweden in 1971
    • This year we have the honour to include a very special guest: Huib Maaskant from the Netherlands will display his Japanese layout “Karakura ” in 1:150 scale.
    • Even smaller is Olle Frykmo’s fascinating model railway in 1:160 scale, which will also be on site.
    • Moreover, don’t miss the opportunity to see Anders Runnholm’s fantastic diorama “Firma Schroth & Kohrn” in 1:35 scale. The diorama depicts a precise and authentic industrial area with a narrow-gauge railway in Sweden in the 1960s.
    • It gets even smaller with Hasse Åhlén’s model railway “Nördingebanan” in 1:220 scale , an entire little world within half a square meter. Sture Bylén will be displaying and talking about different aspects of model building.
    • Hobbypress publisher will offer activities for children such as creating models and figure painting, as well as books for sale
    • Trafik-Nostalgiska publisher will be selling books on historical themes such as trains, trams, buses, and cities.
    • Meet the Stockholm Model Railway Club and the Model Railway Association Smalspårsfrämjandet
    • Outside of the dance pavilion, Stockholm Live Steamers will be operating real working steam trains on their track in a 1:22.5 scale
