Herb Garden

The Herb Garden (Örtagården) by the Lodge contains some one hundred herbs, medicinal plants and decorative plants that have a long history in Sweden. As early as the 1890s Artur Hazelius created a small kitchen garden with some 50 edible plants in it. Like the educationalist that he was he wanted school children to learn to recognize the most common types of cereals, forage and household plants. A new, somewhat larger herb garden was laid out in 1914 on the same site and was replaced by the present garden in 1965.
