Skansen is home to many Swedish animals in the wild. Squirrels, rabbits and winter birds live here year round. When there is no ice, waterfowl and gulls stay by the bird ponds while the Barnacle geese and many species of small birds arrive in spring in search of breeding grounds.
Grey heron

The grey Heron is a fairly common breeding bird in the area around Mälardalen and south.
Barnacle goose

The barnacle goose has greatly increased in numbers in Sweden since the 1970s. It has a white and gray body, black neck and white cheeks.
Squirrel

The squirrel is a rodent which is found throughout Sweden. It easily becomes unafraid of humans and can be quite pushy.
