Bookbindery

The Bookbindery (Bokbinderiet) on the bottom floor (accessed from the entrance to the printing works) has fittings from the latter part of the 19th century from a workshop in Stockholm.

The shop contains tools for stapling, cutting, binding, gilding and other techniques. The large table also provided sleeping quarters for one or two apprentices at night.

Bookbinding began in the monasteries at an early date but did not become a widely practised craft until the 17th and 18th centuries when public libraries and private book collections became more common, especially in Stockholm.
